Perfect World Cup Souvenir for Volunteers
Excitement has been bubbling up amongst our volunteers and local staff with the FIFA 2010 World Cup being held in South Africa. Needless to say, the country as a whole is beyond ecstatic as this is the first time the World Cup has ever been in the African continent.
The trophy was on tour across the country for some weeks leading up to the start of the World Cup. Some of our volunteers and staff were lucky enough to go to the Port Elizabeth viewing and take photos with the trophy. The viewing was at the Eastern Cape Training Centre on the 12th May 2010 and had an attendance of 7 300 people. The photos taken are amazing souvenirs that will be treasured forever and taken home to brag about as it is not everyday that such an opportunity presents itself.
With most of our volunteers coming from the UK, it is an added bonus to them that the England vs. Slovenia match will be hosted in Port Elizabeth on the 23rd June. Hours were spent queuing in line at the ticket office but obviously this was no problem for the volunteers as supporting their national team at the World Cup is worth that wait. It was also great to see them on the front page of a local newspaper the following morning.
Taking time out to do volunteer work with children in South Africa at Umzingisi around this time of the year 2010 proved to be more than rewarding for our volunteers!
