School of Excellence off to a Winning Start
The students at the Umzingisi School of Sporting Excellence have made a winning start to the year with successes across every sport.
The youngsters, all of whom are from the disadvantage township region of Ibhayi in Port Elizabeth, have given the school 100% commitment in training and life skills classes and have reaped the rewards on the pitch with victories in soccer, rugby and netball.
Training three times a week has created a unique understanding and a strong team ethic amongst the students. They work hard for each other and are proud representatives of Umzingisi.
Positive steps have also been made in the classroom as the young learners take part in a course in HIV/Aids awareness, facilitated by Grassroot Soccer. The students are only two sessions away from graduating in the course and will go on to study further life skills which focus on subjects such as decision-making, self-esteem and confidence, relationships and career guidance.
The aim of the Umzingisi School of Sporting Excellence is to develop both academic and sporting talent from within the disadvantaged townships of Port Elizabeth to create both positive role models and a centre of excellence that will uplift the whole community.
