Vital New Court for Township School

By United Through Sport - Posted on 01 October 2007

This September saw the grand opening of the brand spanking new hard court at Sithembile School near Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Fully funded through a £6,000 grant from United Through Sport, this investment in the local community offers crucial access to a high-quality venue for disadvantaged kids in a hugely deprived area.

Sithembile School is located in the heart of the New Brighton township. They have very poor facilities even by township standards, with only one playing field used for cricket, rugby, soccer and hockey which is very uneaven and full of rocks. With the new hard court developed by United Through Sport, both students and the rest of the local community will be able to play netball and a range of other sports on a safe, durable surface for years to come.

The new court is also the venue for a local HIV/AIDS awareness programme, which communicates sexual health messages through sport.

United Through Sport is proud to support this fantastic initiative which has brought a new lease of life to the Sithembile school and introduced a much needed facility into the local area.
