United Through Sport works with The Umzingisi Foundation in South Africa as our in-country partner who is responsible for the management and delivery of all our sports community initiatives.

The Umzingisi Foundation works in schools in the Ibhayi townships of Port Elizabeth to develop sport amongst the disadvantaged and vulnerable youth on a mass participation level. Through sports coaching and teaching programmes (that you can volunteer on) Umzingisi nurtures talent and enhances the necessary life skills to guide young people to becoming well-rounded citizens.
Umzingisi is in a prime position to witness firsthand the sporting talent that exists within these communities and has pioneered the School of Sporting Excellence to take promising athletes from disadvantaged backgrounds to a higher level of sports development.
Umzingisi encourages mass participation in schools and focuses its efforts on introducing primary school children to sport and instilling in them a passion and love for games. Umzingisi uses competitive sport to change young people’s outlook on life and has already seen the benefits of these programmes within the community. The schools involved in the programme will testify to the benefits of the programmes with improvements in behaviour, attendance and academic performance.
United Through Sport and Umzingisi are working areas where problems run deeper than just through a lack of opportunity in sport. However, it is through sport that we can reach out to a generation to show them that it is not material wealth that matters in life; it is your strength of your mind, your spirit and your desire to change.
Each year, thousands of disadvantaged children benefit from the outreach programmes that United Through Sport and Umzingisi fund and deliver in South Africa.
