Our Model

Who We Are
United Through Sport is a sport for development organization that was started in 2004. Our mission is to help disadvantaged communities reach their full potential through sport, education and health. Our work is focused on serving the communities in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, with satellite programs in Argentina, St. Lucia and Mauritius.

Our Mission
We are committed to using sport as a tool to develop disadvantaged and vulnerable youth. We do this through:

  • Using direct sports coaching – for its health benefits, improved emotional well-being and increased life skills (teamwork, leadership, decision making, communication).
  • Using sport to discuss critical issues – by delivering curriculum on topics such as sexual and reproductive health awareness in a fun and interactive manner on the sports field.
  • Using sport for improved education – by providing pathways to success for talented and dedicated individuals through scholarships to top local high schools and tertiary education.
  • Using sport to promote gender equality – by providing girls and boys only spaces where participants can discuss and learn about gender inequalities and how to advocate for gender equality.

What We Do
United Through Sport reaches our participants through our pathway to success model. We work with youth aged 5 – 35 from impoverished areas in the Nelson Mandela Bay area. The communities that our participants come from experience illness, unemployment, malnutrition, substance abuse, and extreme poverty. Our programs are focused on developing life skills, raising awareness on a variety of social and health issues and helping them access better education opportunities. We are committed to assisting each of our participants on their pathway to success.

How We Do It
United Through Sport is built on a pathway to success model. We have created programs that are focused on the specific needs of each age group. Our model ensures that we can target the needs of each age group, ensuring that we take a holistic approach to individual and community development. We are committed to providing our participants with the skills and knowledge they need to reach their full potential, through sport, education and life skills development.
